I LOVE seeing my cake stands in use, it make me feel all warm inside 🙂 I simply had share this picture of the fabulous Tea Birds offering afternoon tea for only £12.50 pp.
My last fair for 2013
Last Saturday I held a stall at Banwell Garden Centre’s Christmas Fair. It was a cold and wet morning and my toes were num within about half an hour of getting there. It was their first fair and I think a bit of a learning curve, organising an event takes a bit more than simply creating a Facebook page but they know for next time. They expected over 100 people there to buy Christmas trees but I think the weather put people off. It was very quiet and by 2:15pm someone started packing away and I followed suit, it was a shame it was so quiet but I literally could not stand the cold any longer (I should have taken a flask of mulled wine).
It was slightly annoying that there was another stall selling cake stands at only £5 each. Without sounding big headed mine looked a lot better but people would always rather pay £5 than £10 but hey ho. The pin cushions did well though so I was happy.
It is sad to have packed everything away but I plan to do a lot more in 2014. I am actually organising a fair for the Spring 2014 in central Bristol, which is quite exciting.
The Tea Birds
I am very excited to announce my friends Anna and Jodie have opened vintage tea room ‘The Tea Birds’ at the bottom of Park Street. They stock all sorts of teas, cakes, sandwiches and lots more in wonderfully vintage style surroundings. I sampled their cheese and chutney sandwich alongside a cup of earl grey tea, a perfect break from my first few hours of Christmas shopping. It’s a great place to catch up with friends over a spot of afternoon tea and listening to 50s music. They are now open everyday, with the official opening event Saturday 30th November, more details can be found on their Facebook page.
I am delighted that my cake stands are being used for afternoon tea and they do look fab in the surroundings (if I do say do myself). Not only this but my cake stands and pin cushions are also being sold in there which is super exciting.
So next time you are on Park Street I definitely recommend a visit to The Tea Birds x
A collection of weird and wonderful lamps
I seem to have a fascination with weird but wonderful lamps. This is started when I was at a carboot on New Years Day in Weston-super-Mare a few years back. This is my ‘beautiful lady lamp’. Some of my lovely housemates hated her (Sophie thats you, but I think you secretly love her) and the others took an eventual liking. I had to buy her, she needed a good home, we needed a lamp and she was only £2. Needless to say she is still around somewhere as I can never seem to part with her.
I found this happy chappy in a garage sale in Milwaukie, OR for only $4. Unfortunately I had very limited space and had to say goodbye.
I will keep adding to this blog post as I find them 🙂 if you have a particularly strange lamp or see one please tweet a picture to me, I would love to see it!
This weeks charity shop and carboot finds in Somerset
In the past few weeks I have been incredibly busy with my new job, which I am loving. So unfortunately vintage hunting was put on the back burner but now have been getting back on track. I popped to Weston Hospice on Worle Highstreet on my lunch Thursday last week and what treats I found.
Cherry Doily 50p
Two lots of 6 x teacups and saucers for £3.50
Vintage teapot £3
3 pretty blue and gold teacups £1.50
4 Royal Dolton dinner plates 10p each
Today I made a quick visit to Cheddar carboot sale and spent all of £15 on some lovely pieces, in particular my new marble side table. One of my old managers at Dew Gibbons had the best taste and she had a beautiful table in the basement (she never wanted to sell it). I managed to find an almost exact replica but the top is real marble rather than imitation… happy days.
Suitcase £1
Marble side table £5
Weighing scales 50p
Bottles 10p each
French tin 50p
Vintage sign £2
Cocktail book 50p
Plates 10p each
Lou Lou’s Bristol Vintage Fair
Well what a wonderful day at Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair to do my first ever stall. It was a long day but worth it in the end and managed to sell almost all of my items and made some good contacts, so very happy. It’s now filled me with confidence and am ready to take on more stalls, with my next one planned in November.
If you bought any pin cushions or cake stands please Tweet me pictures of them in use. I would love to see them in use!
I do have a rogue cake stand pin so if you bought one on Saturday and its missing please let me know and I will get it in the post ASAP x
Upcycled vintage teacup pin cushions
For the past few days I have become obsessed by making these adorable upcycled pin cushions, these are just a few of what I have made. The fabric has all be sourced from various carboot sales, charity shops and even from a Goodwill in Portland I from when I was out there. All I need now is to find some doilies small enough for the tea cup saucers, together with lots more tea cups and they will be complete.
I cannot wait to see how these will do at Lou Lou’s Bristol Vintage Fair in a few weeks time.
It’s a great way to use up any odd tea cups, fabrics, ribbons and buttons that always seem to build up in the cupboard.
I will also do a post on how to make these for yourself very shortly.
To the happy bride and groom
On Saturday I went to John’s friend/old boss’ wedding. As part of their wedding present I made this cake stand for them. I chose complimentary gold colours with a nature theme throughout. I thought this would be perfect as it can be used year round (I am thinking canapés on Christmas day). I managed to find a perfect box for the stands, which I must find more of. What made it even better was a text from the groom the following day telling me that they loved it, so happy!
Wishing Lauren and Ray all the best and a very happy future together x
Sneak Peak of things to come
What with Bristol Vintage Fair coming up very soon, I have been super busy making and sourcing things for it. Here are just a few sneak peaks of what I have been up to over the past few weeks with way more to follow…
Now I am in Somerset again I can go to my favourite carboot in cheddar. Last week while selling at my own stall, I managed to have a quick run around to see what I could find. I was super pleased with my haul. I especially love my rose gold trolly which I will use at the vintage fair. Along with this I got more bottles, a faux fur stole, vintage trunks, a jug, more plates. vintage tins and a few other bits a pieces.
Rockaway beach, Oregon inspiration
In July I visited Rockaway Beach in Oregon with my extended family for a few days. I was pleasantly surprised with the arts and crafts there and found some lovely inspiration I wanted to share.
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside…
